Sedwick sale 27, lot 939

This specimen was lot 939 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 27 (Winter Park, FL, May 2020), where it sold for $505.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "Cuba, silver proof PIEFORT 10 pesos, 1990, Eleventh Pan American Games (Havana, 1991) - Baseball, NGC PF 67 Ultra Cameo, ex-Rudman. Incipient toning at rims, couple tiny spots of cloudiness and one tiny mark in otherwise perfect mirror fields, second highest grade in NGC census for this extra-thick issue (piefort) NGC #5715541-018 (extra-thick slab). Pedigreed to the Isaac Rudman numismatic cabinet." This is one of a series of sports-releated NCLT's issued for the eleventh Pan-American Games in 1991 in Havana. Castro, long an avid fan of baseball, doubtless ensured that it was included. Altho we have catalogued this using the regular issue SCWC number, it is actually a piefort.

Recorded mintage: 3,000 (not including the pieforts).

Specification: 31.10 g, 0.999 fine silver.

Catalog reference: piefort: KM-unlisted; otherwise KM-293.
