from Sincona sale 11, lot 2373

This specimen was lot 2373 in Sincona sale 11 (Zürich, May 2013), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"RDR/ÖSTERREICH Leopold II. 1790-1792. Kronentaler 1792, Mailand. Hübsche Tönung, kl. Justierspuren. Vorzüglich. (Austria, Leopold II, 1790-92, crown thaler of 1792, Milan mint. Nice toning, tiny adjustment mark, extremely fine.)"

This type was struck for Leopold II 1791-92 and succeeded the scudo of 1781-86 (Dav-1387). It was superseded by a kronenthaler or crocione of Francis II of 1792-1800. Austria lost Milan to the French in 1797.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 29.08-29.47 g, 0.873 fine silver, this specimen 29.45 g.

Catalog reference: Dav-1389; KM-236; Herinek 45.
