Sincona sale 26, lot 3640

This specimen was lot 3640 in Sincona sale 26 (Zürich, October 2015), where it sold for 250 CHF (about US$309 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA, Franz II. (I.), 1792-1835 Kronentaler 1792. Mailand. Vorzüglich-FDC. Winz. Justierspuren. (Holy Roman Empire, Francis II, 1792-1835, crown thaler of 1792, Milan mint. Extremely fine to uncirculated, minor adjustment marks.)"

This type was struck for Francis II in 1792-1800. This type is identical to kronenthalers struck elsewhere in the Hapsburg dominions even tho this specimen was struck in Milan (mintmark "M"). Others are known from Prague (mintmark "C"), Karlsburg (mintmark "E"), Hall (mintmark "F"), Nagybanya (mintmark "G"), Günzburg (mintmark "H") and Vienna (mintmark "A"). Austria lost Milan to the French in 1797.
