SB125-32320r.jpg

This specimen was lot 32320 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $4,320. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. 25 Kopeks, 1863-CNB AB. St. Petersburg Mint. Alexander II. NGC MS-64. A VERY RARE date in the series, this impressive and wholesome near-Gem glows with a steely brilliance and provides sharp details that cut with a gleaming glint. A piece that will doubtlessly draw much attention." This type is listed for 1859-85 and was emitted in modest quantities. This date is scarce. The twenty-five kopeks superseded the polupoltinnik (quarter ruble) last coined in 1810.

Recorded mintage: 36,003, a scarce date.

Specification: 5.18 g, 0.868 fine silver, 24.2 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM Y36; Bit-138 (R1).
