Sincona sale 99, lot 258

This specimen was lot 258 in Sincona Auction 99 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 1,800 CHF (about US$2,713 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Alexander II. 1855-1881, 25 Kopecks 1861, St. Petersburg Mint, SPB FB. Sehr selten, Very rare. 2.5 roubles according to Petrov. 3 roubles according to Ilyin. NGC MS62." This type was struck 1859-85 for emperors Alexander II and III. The 1861-МИ is rather scarce and the 1861-ФБ is uncommon. The twenty-five kopeks superseded the polupoltinnik (quarter ruble) last coined in 1810.

Recorded mintage: 116,000 (assayer МИ (Mikhail Ivanov) and ФБ (Fedor Blum)).

Specification: 5.18 g, 0.868 fine silver, 24.2 mm diameter.
