Peru 1839-Cuz A 8 escudos

from Stack's Bowers 2017 NYINC sale, lot 3268

This specimen was lot 3268 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2017), where it did not sell. The catalog description^[1] noted, "PERU. 8 Escudos, 1839-A. Cuzco Mint. NGC MS-62. An impressive piece of early republic gold. Struck on a planchet of highly lustrous gold with full flash in the fields. Slight weakness to strike but not a detracting element. Some light trivial bag marks in the wide open fields as one would expect. A quite difficult type to obtain in mint state. Very appealing and highly desirable." This type was struck at Cuzco 1826-45 and at Lima 1826-40 and 1850-55. This is a somewhat better date.
