from Stack's Bowers 2017 NYINC sale, lot 3268
Peru SB117-3268r.jpg

This specimen was lot 3268 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2017), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU. 8 Escudos, 1839-A. Cuzco Mint. NGC MS-62. An impressive piece of early republic gold. Struck on a planchet of highly lustrous gold with full flash in the fields. Slight weakness to strike but not a detracting element. Some light trivial bag marks in the wide open fields as one would expect. A quite difficult type to obtain in mint state. Very appealing and highly desirable." This type was struck at Cuzco 1826-45 and at Lima 1826-40 and 1850-55. This is a somewhat better date.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.875 fine gold, .760 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: Fr-63; KM-148.3.
