This specimen was lot 1192 in Goldberg sale 46 (Beverly Hills, May 2008), where it sold for $2,900. The catalog description[1] noted,

"Peru. Republic. 8 Escudos, 1840 -A (Cuzco). Large Legends type. Tri-segmented shield of arms supported by crossed flags, and crowned above by wreath. Reverse: Liberty as Pallas Athene, stands frontal supporting cap on spear, while one hand rests on shield. Few planchet flaws, lustrous and proof-like. NGC graded MS-62. The standard issue gold 8 Escudos that were struck after Peru's independence and circulated as legal tender in the United States until the United States Mint struck $20.00 gold pieces in 1850."

This type was struck at Cuzco 1826-45 and at Lima 1826-40 and 1850-55. This is one of the more available dates.
