This specimen was lot 32114 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2024), where it sold for $85. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOHEMIA. Grosch, 1589. Kuttenberg Mint. Rudolf II. PCGS AU-55. Only limitedly handled, this appealing Groschen delivers good charm and retained details." This type was struck 1576-99 and is common. Similar coins were struck at Joachimsthal (moon and star mintmark, KM MB254, struck 1578-95) and Budweis (dog's head mintmark, KM MB287, struck 1584-95 and undated). At this time, one thaler was 72 kreuzer or 24 groschen.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 1.88 g, silver, 21 mm diameter.
