Stack's Bowers 2024 NYINC sale, lot 55527

This specimen was lot 55527 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOHEMIA. Bily Gros (Weissgroschen), 1588. Kuttenberg Mint. Rudolf II. NGC MS-62. A nicely patinated Mint State example." This type was struck 1576-99 and is common. Similar coins were struck at Joachimsthal (moon and star mintmark, KM MB254, struck 1578-95) and Budweis (dog's head mintmark, KM MB287, struck 1584-95 and undated). At this time, one thaler was 72 kreuzer or 24 groschen.
