Sincona sale 39, lot 3876
Ensisheim in upper Alsace. The political situation is of 1477, on the collapse of the Burgundians. Upper Alsace would be ruled by the Hapsburgs until 1648 when it passed to France.

This specimen was lot 3876 in Sincona sale 39 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 825 CHF (about US$990 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA, Erzherzog Leopold V. 1619-1632 Taler 1628. Ensisheim. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Vorzüglich-FDC. NGC MS 62. (Holy Roman Empire, archduke Leopold V, thaler of 1628, Ensisheim mint. Rare in this condition. Extremely fine-uncirculated.)"

This type was struck for the archduke Leopold 1627-30 and is fairly common. Ensisheim would fall to the French at the end of the Thirty Years War.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen: 28.64 g.

Catalog reference: Klemesch 240. Dav-3353, KM 267.4 (listed under Alsace).
