Sincona sale 63, lot 895

This specimen was lot 895 in Sincona sale 63 (Zürich, June 2020), where it sold for 600 CHF (about US$752 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Frankreich, I. Kaiserreich. Napoleon I. 1804-1815. 5 Francs 1812 U, Turin. Selten. Sehr schön. Kleine Kratzer und Randfehler. (empire of France, Napoleon I. 1804-1815, five francs of 1812, Turin mint. Rare, Very fine, Small scratches and edge flaw.)"

This is the most common date of the Turin mint, which struck coins of French designs 1804-14. After the king of Sardinia was restored by the Congress of Vienna, the mint resumed striking Italian coins until the 1860's. An 1812/1 overdate is recorded for the year.

Recorded mintage: 104,787.

Specification: 37 mm diameter, 25 grams, 0.900 fine silver, .723 troy oz AGW, this specimen 24.95 g.
