Aureo sale 246, lot 651

This specimen was lot 651 in Aureo y Calicó sale 246 (Barcelona, September 2012), where it sold for 470 € (about US$714 including buyer's fees). The catalog[1] noted,

"Felipe V (1700-1746). 1733. Felipe V. Madrid. JF. 2 escudos. Sirvió como joya. Rara. (MBC-). (Philip V, 1700-46, two escudos of 1733, Madrid mint. Removed from jewelry, rare, about very fine.)"

This type was issued at Madrid 1730-33. All the early two escudos of Spain are rare and expensive. This one appears to have had a mount removed.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 6.77 g, 0.901 fine gold, .196 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Cayón-9728, KM 566, Cal. 335.
