This specimen was lot 72741 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2020), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "STRAITS SETTLEMENTS. Cent, 1883. London Mint. Victoria. NGC AU-58. A delicately circulated example with soft blue toning highlights around the raised designs on both sides." The type was struck in 1872-83 after the Straits Settlements were made a separate crown colony and is scarce in nice condition despite the large mintage. It was converted to bronze for the 1884-86 issue (KM 9a) and given a reeded edge for the 1887-1900 issue (KM 16).
Recorded mintage: 8,640,000.
Specifications: 9.30 g, copper, 28.8 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM-9; Prid-172.
