Stack's Bowers May 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 33171
SB524-33171r.jpg

This specimen was lot 33171 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2024), where it sold for $1,080. The catalog description[1] noted, "EGYPT. 50 Pounds, AH 1415/1994. PCGS PROOF-69 Deep Cameo. Fr-258; KM-Unlisted. Notably missing from Krause, this handsome 50 Pounds featuring the crocodile God Sobek seems to be rather SCARCE, as examples of the type do not trade with any frequency. Given the elusive nature, we would expect any collector of Egyptian coinage to be enthralled with this specimen." Other fifty pound issues for 1994 include KM 737, 739, KM 778, 779, KM 780, 781, 782, 814, 815, 816, 817, 818, 819, 820, 821, 822, 871, 872, KM 877, 882, 884, 886, 887, 888, 890, 891, 892, 893, 895. Friedberg lumps all 56 designs of this ancient art series under Fr-258.

Recorded mintage: unknown.
