Sincona sale 31, lot 49

This specimen was lot 49 in Sincona sale 31 (Zurich, October 2016), where it sold for 400 CHF (about US$475 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "OTTOMAN TUNIS | Selim III (1203-1222ah/1789-1807ce) riyal 1203ah (1789ce) Bi xf." This type was struck AH 1203 only in the name of Selim III in Constantinople. It is very rare in nice condition. Sixteen kharub made a piastre or riyal, the largest silver coin issued in Tunisia in the eighteenth century.
