Tripoli AH 1203 100 para
This specimen was lot 3838 in Sincona sale 51 (Zürich, October 2018), where it sold for 450 CHF (about US$543 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"TÜRKEI, Selim III. 1789-1807. 2 1/2 Kurush AH 1203 (1789), Trablus gharb (Tripolis). Sehr selten. Sehr schön. Gereinigt und kleiner Randfehler. (sultanate of Turkey, Selim III, 1789-1807, 2½ kurush of year AH 1203, Tripoli mint. Very rare, Very fine, Cleaned and edge nick.)"
This is listed in the SCWC under Tripoli/Libya as a 100 para, which mentions the dates AH 1209-1210 only. In the eighteenth century, Tripoli was one of the Barbary States preying on commerce plying the Mediterranean.
