This specimen was lot 33363 in Heritage sale 3073 (Chicago, April 2019), where it sold for $384. The catalog description[1] noted, "Ottoman Empire. Selim III 40 Para (Piastre) AH 1203 Year 2 (AD 1789/90) XF Details (Spot Removed) PCGS, Tarabalus Gharb mint (in Libya), Crudely made and with some surface damage, a very rare type. Ex Dr. Hans Wilski Collection. From the Engelen Collection of World Coinage." The SCWC records this rare type for years 1, 2, 8 and 10 of Selim III's reign. In the eighteenth century, Tripoli was one of the Barbary States preying on commerce plying the Mediterranean.
