Sincona sale 77, lot 2194

This specimen was lot 2194 in Sincona sale 77 (Zurich, May 2022), where it sold for 525 CHF (about US$637 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"GERMANY | Sachsen, Königreich | Albertiner. Friedrich August III. (I.), 1763-1827. Konventionstaler 1826 S, Dresden. Ausbeute. Fast vorzüglich. Winzige Randfehler. (Germany, kingdom of Saxony, Frederick Augustus I, 1763-1827, convention thaler of 1826, Dresden mint, for the mines. About extremely fine, Tiny edge flaws.)"

This mining thaler was minted 1824-27 and is fairly common. The obverse photo in the SCWC is incorrect. Thalers were struck to the convention standard until 1839.

Specification: 28.06 g, 0.833 fine silver, this specimen 27.97 g.
