Sincona sale 88, lot 128

This specimen was lot 128 in Sincona sale 88 (Zurich, May 2024), where it sold for 700 CHF (about US$925 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"IRAN, Zand Dynasty, Sadeq Khan, 1193-1195 AH (1779-1781). 1/4 Mohur Ashrafi 1195 AH (1781), Kerman Mint. Äusserst selten; Extremely rare. NGC MS63. Purchased from B. Schulten, Köln, in 1989."

Sadeq Khan was Karim Khan's brother and the uncle of Karim's successor Abol-Fath Khan. After setting Abol-Fath Khan aside, Sadeq Khan ruled in his own right until his death in 1781. This type B quarter mohur (KM A552) is listed for Shiraz only; a type A quarter mohur (KM 551.3) is listed for Kirman.
