Sincona sale 88, lot 129

This specimen was lot 129 in Sincona sale 88 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 675 CHF (about US$892 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"IRAN, Zand Dynasty, Sadeq Khan, 1193-1195 AH (1779-1781). 1/4 Mohur Ashrafi 1195 AH (1781), Khuy Mint. Sehr selten; Very rare. NGC MS62. Purchased from Dr. Busso Peus, Frankfurt, in 2006."

Sadeq Khan was Karim Khan's brother and the uncle of Karim's successor Abol-Fath Khan. After setting Abol-Fath Khan aside, Sadeq Khan ruled in his own right until his death in 1781. This quarter mohur is listed for Khuy (shown here, struck AH 1194-1195) and four other mints.
