This specimen was lot 2918 in Sincona sale 83 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 475 CHF (about US$636 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "IRAN, Karim Khan, 1166-1193 AH (1753-1779). 1/4 Mohur 1192 AH (1778), Kashan. NGC MS65." The Zand dynasty, founded by Karim Khan Zand, conquered and ruled most of Afsharid Iran (except Khorasan) in the eighteenth century. Karim Khan's successors lacked his ability and the state soon crumbled under Qajar attacks. The SCWC notes that this type was struck AH 1190-1193 at Khuy, Tabriz, Shiraz, Kirman, Kashan (shown here), Rasht, Yazd and Rekab.
