Iran AH 1191 1/4 mohur KM-525.4
This specimen was lot 1404 in Goldberg Sale 137 (Los Angeles, January 2024), where it sold for $504. The catalog description[1] noted, "Iran. ¼ Mohur, AH1191 (1777). Mazandaran. Karim Khan, AH1166-1193//1753-1779AD. Pop 1; The only Example graded at PCGS. PCGS graded MS-63." The Zand dynasty, founded by Karim Khan Zand, conquered and ruled most of Afsharid Iran (except Khorasan) in the eighteenth century. Karim Khan's successors lacked his ability and the state soon crumbled under Qajar attacks. The SCWC notes that this type was struck AH 1190-1193 at Khuy, Tabriz, Shiraz, Kirman, Kashan, Rasht and Rekab. This type was struck at Mazandaran AH 1189-1191.
