Stephen Album sale 43, lot 1564

This specimen was lot 1564 in Stephen Album sale 43 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2022), where it sold for $204. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO: Estados Unidos, peso, 1983-Mo, José Maria Teclo Morelos y Pavón, scarcer variety with open 8 at base, NGC graded PF69 Ultra Cameo, R. Tied for finest known at NGC." The circulation issue of 1970-83 is common but the proofs, struck 1983 only, are scarce. Wide and narrow date varieties exist for the date.

Recorded mintage: 100,000,000 plus 1,051 proofs.

Specification: 9 g, copper-nickel, 29 mm diameter, reeded edge.
