Sincona sale 88, lot 201

This specimen was lot 201 in Sincona sale 88 (Zurich, May 2024), where it sold for 1,000 CHF (about US$1,322 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"IRAN, Qajar Dynasty, Naser al-Din Shah, 1264-1313 (1848-1896). Toman 1268 AH (1852), Tabriz Mint. Selten; Rare. NGC MS63. Purchased from M. Saffar, London, in 2007."

This gold denomination was struck at numerous mints in the beginning of the reign of Nasir al-Din Shah. It is listed from Tabriz for AH 1265, 1268, 1271-1280, 1284. This example realized over five times the catalog value.

Specification: 3.45 g, gold, this specimen 3.46 g.
