This specimen was lot 1425 in Stephen Album sale 41 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2021), where it sold for $420. The catalog description[1] noted, "IRAQ: Republic, AR dinar, 1980/AH1401, 1400th Anniversary of the Hijra, with original box of issue, PCGS graded Proof 68 DCAM." This design also appeared on KM 150 (50 dinars) and KM 151 (100 dinars). Iraq, long a part of the Ottoman Empire, was seized by the British at the end of World War One but then granted independence under a local monarchy which ruled until 1958. In 1980, Saddam Hussein had embroiled Iraq in war with Iran.
