Stephen Album sale 37, lot 1686

This specimen was lot 1686 in Stephen Album sale 37 (Santa Rosa, CA, June 2020), where it sold for $1,547. The catalog description[1] noted, "IRAQ: AV 50 dinars, 1980/AH1400, commemorating the First Anniversary of Saddam Hussein's Presidency, NGC graded PF61 UC, R." This fifty dinars accompanied a gold hundred dinars honoring Saddam. At the time, Saddam had U.S. support in his opposition to the ayatollahs in Iran. Iraqi coinage essentially ceased 1982-90.
