Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale, lot 74357

This specimen was lot 74357 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2022), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. 1/2 Rupee, 1945-(B). Bombay Mint. George VI. NGC AU-58. Large 5 Variety. This RARE variety offers cartwheeling luster and very little evidence of actual handling." This type was struck at Bombay (shown here) and Lahore.

Recorded mintage: 32,722,000. small 5 is common, large 5 is rare.

Specification: 5.84 g, 0.500 fine silver, 24.1 mm diameter.
