Stack's Bowers 2023 ANA sale, lot 56600

This specimen was lot 56600 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $60. The catalog description^[1] noted, "INDIA. 1/2 Rupee, 1944-L. Lahore Mint. George VI. PCGS AU-58." This type was struck 1942-45 of debased silver. This is a common date altho the proofs are rare. After independence, Lahore became part of Pakistan.

Recorded mintage: 79,100,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 5.84 g, 0.500 fine silver, 24.1 mm diameter.
