Sincona sale 46, lot 1274

This specimen was lot 1274 in Sincona sale 47 (Zurich, May 2018), where it sold for 140 CHF (about US$168 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"CHINA, Volksrepublik, 10 Yuan 1988. Jahr des Drachen. Polierte Platte. FDC. In Originalschachtel mit Zertifikat. (people's republic of China, ten yuan of 1988, year of the Dragon. Choice Proof, In original box with certificate.)"

This is an early NCLT from the communist regime in China. At the beginning, there was little market in China for these and they were not popular in the United States, so the mintages were low. This one honors the year of the dragon in the Chinese zodiac. Another Year of the Dragon coin was issued that year (KM A193) with two dragons.

Recorded mintage: 15,000.

Specification: 15 g, 0.900 fine silver, this specimen 15.17 g.

Catalog reference: KM 193.
