This specimen was lot 1564 in Jean Elsen sale 112 (Brussels, March 2012) where it sold for € 190 ($297 including buyer's fee). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ALLEMAGNE, République de Weimar, (1919-1933), AR 3 Reichsmark, 1927 F, 450e anniversaire de l'université de Tübingen. Petites taches. Superbe. (Germany, Weimar republic, 1919-33, silver three mark of 1927, 450th anniversary of the University of Tubingen. Tiny marks, extremely fine.)"
This type, issued in 1927, was struck in Stuttgart ("F") along with a similar five mark. It is expensive; perhaps they were melted during World War Two.
Recorded mintage: 50,000 plus a few proofs.
Specification: 15 g, 0.500 fine silver, .241 troy oz ASW, 30 mm diameter.
