This specimen was lot 1298 in Ponterio sale 173 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $822. The catalog description[2] noted, "GERMANY. 3 Mark, 1928-D. Struck to commemorate 1000th anniversary of the founding of Dinkelsbuhl. NGC MS-65." This type, issued in 1928, was struck in Munich (mintmark "D"). It is expensive; perhaps it was melted during World War Two.
Recorded mintage: 40,000 plus proofs.
Specification: 15 g, 0.500 fine silver, 30 mm diameter.
