Sincona sale 63, lot 1712

This specimen was lot 1712 in Sincona sale 63 (Zurich, June 2020), where it sold for 500 CHF (about US$627 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RUMÄNIEN, Carol I. 1866-1914. 12 1/2 Lei 1906, Brüssel. Zum 40. Regierungsjubiläum. Sehr schön. Kleine Randfehler. (kingdom of Romania, Charles I, 1866-1914, 12½ lei of 1906, Brussels mint, on his 40th year of reign. Very fine, Minor edge flaws.)"

A series of commemoratives was released on this occasion, ranging from five to one hundred lei. This was the only issue of this denomination.

Recorded mintage: 32,000.

Specification: 4.03 g, 0.900 fine gold, 19 mm diameter, this specimen 4.02 g.
