Sincona sale 63, lot 1709

This specimen was lot 1709 in Sincona sale 63 (Zürich, June 2020), where it sold for 1,200 CHF (about US$251 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RUMÄNIEN, Carol I. 1866-1914. 25 Lei 1906, Brüssel. Zum 40. Regierungsjubiläum. Nur 24'000 Exemplare geprägt. PCGS AU58. (kingdom of Romania, Charles I, 1866-1914, twenty-five lei of 1906, Brussels mint, on his 40th year of reign. Only 24'000 pieces struck.)"

A series of commemoratives was released on this occasion, ranging from five to one hundred lei. This was the only issue of this denomination.

Recorded mintage: 24,000.

Specification: 8.07 g, 0.900 fine gold, 30 mm diameter.
