This specimen was lot 191 in Künker Auction 423 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €12,000 (about US$16,992 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"HABSBURGISCHE ERBLANDE-ÖSTERREICH · RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Franz I., 1745-1765. Dukat 1758 H-A, Hall. Sehr seltener Jahrgang. Vorzüglich/vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. Exemplar der Auktion Adolph Hess 256, Luzern 1986, Nr. 757. (Holy Roman Empire, Francis I, 1745-65, ducat of 1758, Hall mint. Obverse: armored, mantled and laureate bust with Order chain; reverse: crowned and nimbate double-headed eagle with sword and scepter in its claws, supporting the impaled arms of Lorraine and Tuscany, mintmark below. Very rare date, extremely fine to uncirculated.)
(The double-headed eagle depicted on the reverse of this rare ducat bears the impaled coat of arms of Lorraine/Tuscany, the emperor's family crest, as its central shield. The reverse also features the motto "TU DOMINE SPES MEA" (You, Lord, are my hope). On larger denominations—gold or silver—the motto is slightly modified: "IN TE DOMINE SPERAVI" (In You, Lord, I have hoped).)"
This type was struck 1751-65 at Karlsburg (mintmark "CA"), Graz (mintmark "GR"), Kremnitz (mintmark "KB"), Prague (mintmark "PR"), Vienna (mintmark "WI"), Nagybánya (mintmark "NB") and Hall (shown here). Use of a unified design with mintmarks were introduced with the convention thaler of 120 kreuzer.
Recorded mintage: unknown but few.
Specification: 3.49 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 3,47 g.
