This specimen was lot 32094 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2024), where it sold for $1,320. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRIA. Holy Roman Empire. Ducat, 1758-NB. Baia Mare (Nagybanya) Mint. Francis I. PCGS AU-55. An elusive Ducat, from modern day Baia Mare, this charming example delivers good eye appeal, with sharp luster and only the most limited signs of handling. An example that is certain to drive much excitement." This type was struck for the Hapsburgs 1745-65 and is sometimes available. We will follow the SCWC and file this under Austria altho it can also be considered Hungarian or Transylvanian. Francis I nominally ruled all three realms altho Maria Theresia made all the decisions. This type was struck with mintmarks PR (Prague), WI (Vienna), HA (Hall), NB (Nagybánya, shown here), CA (Karlsburg) and GR (Graz).

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.49 g, 0.986 fine gold.

Catalog reference: Fr-188; KM-1725.2.
