This coin was minted in Lima, Peru, in 1833. This specimen was lot 3543 in the Eliasberg sale, where it sold for $2,530. The catalog description[1] noted, "1833 MM 1 escudo. Lima mint. MS-62 (NGC). Types as above. Deep gold with faint orange overtones. Nice lustre and aesthetic appeal. From the John H. Clapp Collection; Clapp estate to Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr., 1942." This is the final and very rare date of a type struck at Lima 1826-33. Cuzco also minted this type in 1826 and 1830.

Specification: 3.37 g, 0.875 fine gold, .095 troy oz AGW; this specimen: 3.32 grams, 18.10 mm diameter.
