Sincona sale 85, lot 1008

This specimen was lot 1008 in Sincona sale 85 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 46,000 CHF (about US$61,944 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"IRAN, Nasir al-Din Shah, 1264-1313 AH (1848-1896). 10 Tomans 1297 AH (1880 AD), Tehran Mint. Lion & Sun type. Extremely rare, the first 10 Toman issue of Naser al-Din Shah. NGC UNC Details. Slightly cleaned. From the Kian collection, auction SINCONA 49, October 2018, lot 44. Bought from Dr. A. Shams-Aram, London, 1980."

With the coming of the milled coinage, all of the branch mints were closed and all production was completed in Tehran. Another ten toman struck in AH 1297 bears the shah's portrait (Fr-52).

Specification: 28.74 g, 0.900 fine gold, this specimen 28.53 g.
