Sincona sale 85, lot 1167

This specimen was lot 1167 in Sincona sale 85 (Zurich, October 2023), where it sold for 1,800 CHF (about US$2,424 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"IRAN, Muhammad Ali Shah, 1324-1327 AH (1907-1909). 1/2 Toman 1326 AH (1908/1909 AD), Tehran Mint. Bust type. Rare. NGC AU58. From the Kian collection, auction SINCONA 49, October 2018, lot 180. Bought from Ali Mehran collection, London, 1981. Finest certified by NGC."

This scarce type is listed for AH 1326 and 1327 as well as an erroneous date 1362. This denomination was also struck in silver (bust obverse and lion obverse), both very rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.43 g, 0.900 fine gold, this specimen 1.38 g.
