Sincona sale 85, lot 1173

This specimen was lot 1173 in Sincona sale 85 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 500 CHF (about US$673 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"IRAN, Muhammad Ali Shah, 1324-1327 AH (1907-1909). 500 Dinars 1326 AH (1908/1909 AD), Tehran Mint. Bust type. Date added on reverse. Very rare variety. NGC UNC Details. Obverse cleaned. From the Kian collection, auction SINCONA 49, October 2018, lot 191. Bought from Dr. A. Shams-Aram, London, 1982."

The SCWC notes three different issues of this denomination in AH 1326: KM 1010 (lion obverse), KM 1013 (bust obverse, date on obverse only) and KM 1014 (bust obverse, date on both sides, shown here). All are scarce but KM 1010 is the most available.

Specification: 2.30 g, 0.900 fine silver, 18 mm diameter.
