This specimen was lot 74307 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2022), where it sold for $120. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. British East India Company. Rupee, 1835-(B). Bombay Mint. William IV. PCGS Genuine--Cleaning, Unc Details. Variety without initials on truncation. A bright, well struck Rupee with frosty luster still remaining in portions of the fields." This type comes in numerous varieties, suggesting that it was struck with a frozen date until the introduction of the Victoria rupee (KM 457) in 1840. The East India Company was dissolved and its assets taken over by the British government after the Mutiny of 1857.
