This specimen was lot 1938 in Sedwick sale 34 (Winter Park, FL, November 2023), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "Potosi, Bolivia, cob 1 real, 1684 V+VR, very rare. Very rare type with two clear VR's on the pillars side and a clear V on the cross side. Previously unrecorded type and the first we have offered as a 1 real (examples of the same variety on 8 reales have appeared sporadically). VF with full pillars and clear date, off-center cross with nearly all of king's name showing, minor surface marks on the pillars side." This type was struck in the name of the degenerate Charles II 1667-1701. Assayer de Villar stamped coins with a "V" 1679-84 and a "VR" 1684-97.
