This specimen was lot 72009 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it sold for $288. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 6 Pence, 1583. London Mint; im: A. Elizabeth I. PCGS VF-35 Gold Shield. Though a piece which has seen its fair share of circulation, the present specimen nevertheless stands as the highest graded for the date by PCGS. Deep gunmetal toning and a fairly sharp strike will not be overlooked by the astute bidder. From the Regent Crest Collection." This type, part of the fourth issue, was struck 1582-89. Similar sixpences were struck until the end of the reign.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 0.925 fine silver, 48 grains.
