India 1908-B rupee

CNG Lissner sale, lot 506

This specimen was lot 506 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $2,420. The catalog description^[1] noted, "INDIA, Colonial. British India. Edward VII. 1901-1910. AR Rupee. Bombay mint. Dated 1908 B. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 66. Gem uncirculated with gray and opal toning. Purchased from Meridian Coin Company." The rupees of Edward VII were struck 1903-10 at Bombay and Calcutta and most dates are common. Proofs are rare.

Recorded mintage: 10,715,000 plus 20,218,000 from Calcutta.

Specification: 11.66 g, .917 fine silver. This specimen Ø31 mm, 11.76 g, 12h axis.
