This specimen was lot 1417 in Ponterio sale 173 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $3,819. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. Rupee, 1909. Calcutta Mint. PCGS PROOF-64. Dark attractive multicolored toning. From the Sanjay Gandhi Collection." The rupees of Edward VII were struck 1903-10 and most dates are common. Proofs are rare. The Bombay mint contributed another 10,715,000.

Recorded mintage: 12,759,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 11.66 g, .917 silver, .343 troy oz ASW.
