This specimen was lot 10349 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $1,292. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[Germany|GERMANY]]. Saxony. Taler, 1657. NGC AU-55. Johann Georg II (1656-80). Death of Ferdinand III. Toned, nice strike, attractive. NGC AU-55. Demarete Collection." Saxony, one of the larger divisions of Germany and blessed with numerous silver mines, issued large numbers of thalers. This type was issued 1657-58 only to commemorate the death of the emperor Ferdinand III. The elector also issued a quarter thaler ([[Saxony 1657 1/4 thaler|KM 457]]), a half thaler ([[Saxony 1657 1/2 thaler KM-458|KM 458]]), a double thaler ([[Saxony 1657 2 thaler Dav-LS398|Dav-LS398]]), a triple thaler (Dav-LS397), a quadruple thaler ([[Saxony 1657 4 thaler Dav-LS396|Dav-LS396]]), a single ducat ([[Saxony 1657 ducat Fr-2720|KM 463]]) and a double ducat ([[Saxony 1657 2 ducats Fr-2719|KM 464]]) on this occasion.
