This specimen was lot 720 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $969.38. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. Taler, 1659-CR. Johann Georg II (1656-1680). NGC MS-62. Finest certified. Iridescent toning with prominent hues of orange and blue. From the Rockaway Collection." In addition to this type, struck 1658-80, the SCWC notes a thaler struck on quarter thaler dies (Dav-7617A).
Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.
