Künker sale 335, lot 4284

This specimen was lot 4284 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €850 (about US$1,112 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SACHSEN, SACHSEN, KURFÜRSTENTUM. Johann Georg II. 1656-1680. 1/2 Reichstaler 1659, Dresden. Erbländischer Halbtaler. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Scharf ausgeprägtes Porträt. Feine Patina, min. Belagreste, winz. Schrötlingsfehler, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (Germany, electorate of Saxony, John George II, 1656-80, half thaler of 1659, Dresden mint, hereditary half thaler. Rare in this quality, sharply struck portrait, fine patina, minor deposits and planchet flaws, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

Another half thaler was struck in 1679 using one-eighth thaler dies, resulting in a quaduple thick coin. This type was struck 1658-65 and is somewhat available.
