Stack's Bowers 2025 ANA sale, lot 43405
SB825-43405r.jpg

This specimen was lot 43405 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $1,080. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Empire. Demi-Franc (1/2 Franc), 1806-Q. Perpignan Mint. Napoleon I. PCGS AU-55. Surpassed in the PCGS census by just one other, this issue from a SCARCER mint displays very little in the way of actual handling, remaining exceptional[ly] wholesome and original. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Alain Weil in Paris on 10 February 1977 for $135)." In 1806 the French revolutionary calendar was dropped and normal AD dating resumed. This type was struck 1806-07 with eleven different date-mintmark combinations, of which the 1806-A is the only one at all common.

Recorded mintage: 15,347.

Specification: 2.5 g, 0.900 fine silver, decorated edge, 18 mm diameter, designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier (1763-1819).

Catalog reference: KM-671.6; Gad-396; F.175/5.
