Jean Elsen sale 135, lot 1436

This specimen was lot 1436 in Jean Elsen sale 135 (Brussels, December 2017), where it sold for €4,800 (about US$6,649 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANCE, Napoléon Ier (1804-1814), AV 20 francs, 1806W, Lille. Tête nue. 4.242 p. frappées. Très rare Fines griffes. Bel exemplaire avec brillant de frappe original. Superbe. Gold coins of the French branch mints are very scarce as a class and probably underpriced. This type was struck 1806 only at five mints of which only Paris is common.

Recorded mintage: 4,224.
