Ponterio sale 177, lot 35143
Neth 1911 gulden rev P177-35143.jpg

This specimen was lot 35143 in Ponterio sale 177 (Chicago, August 2013), where it sold for $147. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. Gulden, 1911. PCGS AU Details-Cleaning, Secure Holder. Cleaned long ago, now attractively toned." This type, listed for 1910-17, superseded a similar type (KM 122.2) struck 1904-09 with a different hairstyle for the queen. Silver gulden were struck in the Netherlands until 1940 and for the government-in-exile at the Philadelphia mint 1944-45. Postwar issues were reduced weight. This type is common in worn condition but scarce nice.

Recorded mintage: 2,000,000 (a better date).

Specification: 10 g, 0.720 fine silver, 28 mm diameter, edge lettered ★ GOD ★ ZY ★ MET ★ ONS.

Catalog reference: KM 148, Sch-813.
